Nurturing Learning Through Play - Our Values

At Riverside Nursery School we strive to provide the children in our care with the best possible foundation for the start of their educational journey. We know that high quality early years provision is essential for children’s development. Our curriculum celebrates the fact that all children are unique and all children are valued as individuals and will be treated equally and with respect.

We understand the value of good relationships with parents and acknowledge that working together is vital for the best outcomes for the children. We believe in equality for all regardless of gender, ability, religion, race, or creed and understand that children develop and learn at different rates. We recognise the importance of British Values and are committed to embedding these values throughout our teaching and learning practices.

The EYFS & Our Curriculum

It is our intention to create an environment that fully supports the EYFS and the development of children in line with the 7 areas of learning; Communication & Language, Personal Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts & Design.

Our focus is on providing children with the skills to be independent, confident learners, who are resilient and persevere to achieve their goals. We use the curriculum together with our knowledge and experience to reflect and respond to the individual needs of the children. Our aim is to create a warm and welcoming environment where children form strong relationships with the staff and their peers and where their needs are met.

Our planning methods help us to make the best use of our environment and

provide the right resources to support children’s interests.

Discover Our Settings

Riverside Nursery Schools were established in 1989 and have been under the current ownership since 2010. We are a family owned and run nursery and pride ourselves on providing an environment that promotes learning through play, unique experiences and putting the child at the heart of everything we do. We comprise two settings in Chepstow which straddle the England/Wales border.

Our England setting is situated in rural Tutshill and boasts an exceptional outside space with access to surrounding fields and countryside. Our Wales setting is situated in the heart of Chepstow town centre within easy walking distance of local amenities including, the famous Castle, local library, parks, shops and schools.

We operate for 51 weeks of the year providing high quality care and education in a safe and welcoming environment.

Healthy Eating

At Riverside Nursery School, we understand the significance of nurturing healthy minds and bodies in children. It is crucial for their growth and development that they consume the right foods. We recognize that when children have a nutritious diet in their early years, they are more likely to make healthy choices throughout their lives.

Both our settings have a dedicated cook on site and all our meals are cooked from scratch on a daily basis using fresh ingredients. We cater for all dietary requirements and our menus are dietician approved.

Outdoor Play and Learning

Outdoor play and learning is an integral part of our pedagogy. We understand the vital role that learning outdoors has on children’s learning and development as well as the importance of regular access to outdoor play in order to keep fit and healthy, develop children’s large and fine motor skills, experience learning in a natural environment and access sunlight in order to absorb vitamin D more effectively.

One of the best ways children can experience nature is through their play outdoors in the garden and in the wider natural environment. We ensure that children have access to the outdoors in all weathers and ask parents to ensure that they provide suitable clothing and waterproofs e.g. all-in-one suits and wellies. “There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing!”

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

We are committed to the inclusion of all children at our nursery. We ensure all children are cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside their peers through positive experiences. We enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs and we work hard to ensure no child is discriminated against or put at a disadvantage as a consequence of their needs.

Each child’s needs are unique and we do not attempt to categorise children. In each setting we have a designated co-ordinator, SENCo (England)/ALNCo (Wales), who is specifically trained to support families where a child is identified as having additional needs. We will work closely with parents, key workers and any relevant outside agencies to ensure that each child receives the correct level of support needed and that this support is provided in a timely manner.
